Maranatha Christian School 17-year School Reunion

Fittingly, 17 years ago at age 17, I was in my final year of high school at Maranatha Christian School.

This weekend, I'm going to the first school reunion since then. I'm looking forward to seeing people I haven't seen since school finished; I know I went my own way and I'm glad to be able to catch up with old friends.

The photo below is from "the old days". Note I have never been cool - this shows just how dorky I am :-)

Why I'm Drawn To Chuck

I've never been a fan of Chuck Norris. I know I could get round-house kicked through a bar window for saying that...but wait: I'm strangely drawn to Chuck.
No, I can't name a single movie Chuck has starred in (apart from one Bruce Lee film) and I never watched Walker, Texas Ranger although I do know of the show's existence.

But I love the legend that surrounds Chuck Norris. There's a recent funny where if you type "find chuck norris" in Google and click "I'm Feeling Lucky", you get redirected to a special "not found" page.

To show just how much I still appreciate Chuck, 2 years on, I'll leave you with one of my favorite "Chuck Norris is so tough" quotes (see here and here for more):

Chuck Norris makes onions cry.

Feeling A Little Lost

Olivia and I are "in between" churches at the moment. I don't want to go into too much detail but basically our last church lost momentum and folded. People went their separate ways, and we stayed in touch with a few families.

Since then, we've been visiting local churches and are fine with that, but I guess I just feel a little lost sometimes.

I think it boils down to this: I don't feel connected right now. I guess that regular Sunday morning "how are you doing", comfortable kind of thing just isn't happening.

I'm sure I'll be OK...but I'm looking forward to finding a church again, and feeling a little less lost.

Macrae Holidays

We went camping in Macrae (on Victoria's beautiful Mornington Peninsula) over summer, and had a great time. The weather was perfect with a combination of hot, mild and some "cold" days - not too cold as we were staying in our massive family tent!

Of course the kids swam at the beach even on "cold" days. Apart from that we did lots of walking, reading and relaxing. My Mum and Dad came to visit on the weekend when we had planned to go strawberry picking (it actually had rained overnight, making it too muddy).

Here's 3 of my favorite pictures from our holiday enjoying the Victorian summer at the beach (click to see the full-size image):

What Are You Training For?

I remember some time ago talking to someone I knew about me starting personal training. He asked me an interesting question that I had no answer to.

"What are you training for?"

His pragmatic view was that the only way he'd ever do the same thing, or go to a gym or start running, was if it served some ultimate purpose.

I didn't have an ultimate purpose in mind at the time (and still don't, apart from keeping me off my fat butt), but if I had my wits about me I would've snapped back with this oh-so-clever remark that I just thought of :-)

"When you have a cigarette, what are you training for?"

Buuuut, If I took this seriously, I'd have to ask myself also (complete the sentence) "When I use Facebook...", or "When I eat that 4th Tim Tam..." or "When I sleep in..."

Oh oh. What am I training for?

Aussie Bloggers Forum

I've been slack for not mentioning a new forum around town: the Aussie Bloggers Forum (and associated blog).

This is a gathering for Australian bloggers to ask and answer questions on blogging - pretty much anything at all!

It's great to know there are other bloggers out there with some connection to this sunburnt country, willing to lend a helping hand or friendly advice.
